Higlo exists to bring people together. We think the best of life happens with the people you love, and yet so much of modern life is spent heads-down in a phone, scrolling alone. We build technology that pulls the other way: helping people spend more real time with the people around them, and with the family who are far away.

Our first product is the Hearth, a multi-generational communication device that sits above the TV and connects homes to homes. Lift your hand, and your living room opens into a shared space with the people you love, grandparents, parents, kids, whole households together at once. It's not a video call; it's a place families go to talk, be together, and do things together.

We're a small team, early in the journey: today we design and build every Hearth ourselves, here in Edinburgh, and real devices already live in real families' living rooms. Our ambition is for the Hearth to be in millions of homes, at that scale the building happens in factories, not our office, but the hands-on heart of the company never goes away: there will always be units to improve and rework, new ideas to prototype, and a workshop to keep in good order. We're looking for someone who loves that kind of work to come and make it their own.

The Role

This is a hands-on, practical role: two good days a week of making, fixing, and organising, at the centre of a small team building something that matters.

You don't need a technical background, and this isn't a rung on an engineering career ladder. If you're the kind of person who's naturally good with your hands and naturally organised, who enjoys careful work, done properly, in good company, this job was written for you.

The work itself is real and varied. Hearths come back to us to be updated and refreshed: fronts and lids swapped, older units brought up to the latest version, returns inspected and made right again. Parts come off our 3D printers and need finishing. And the physical side of the office, parts, supplies, tools, stock, needs someone to give it order and keep it that way.

Everything specialist about the job, we'll teach you. What we can't teach, care, tidiness, and the quiet satisfaction of a job finished properly, is what we're hiring for.

In this role, you will

• Update and refresh Hearths: swapping fronts and lids, and bringing older units up to the latest version

• Build up and prepare units so they're ready to go out to families

• Handle returns: look over what's come back, work out what's needed, and make it right

• Look after our 3D printers: keep them running, and finish the parts that come off them so they're ready to use

• Bring order to the physical side of the office: parts, supplies, tools, and stock, organised so we always know what we have and where it is

• Pick up the practical jobs that come with building a physical product in a small team, and learn the specialist bits, like a little soldering, as you go

• Love making things, and are good at it: careful, precise, with a real eye for detail

• Are naturally organised: you like giving things a system, and you enjoy keeping it that way

• Take pride in finish: the last fiddly 10% of a job is the part you refuse to skip

• Can happily work through a day of practical jobs on your own steam, and know when to ask

• Like the idea of being part of a small, in-person team, working on a product that helps families be together

• Want a couple of proper days a week of work that's absorbing and worthwhile, with the rest of your week left for the rest of your life

Your Background Looks Something Like

• There's no qualification for this job, and no particular CV we're looking for. The best sign is what you're like anyway: you're the one who builds the flat-pack furniture, fixes things rather than replacing them, finishes the model kit, keeps the cupboard everyone else can never find anything in

• Your making might have been professional, workshop, repair, fabrication, craft, or it might all have happened at home, in hobbies and projects. Both are equally interesting to us; we care what your hands can do, not where they learned it

• The specialist parts, a little soldering, running 3D printers, are a small slice of the job, and we'll happily teach you all of it. Curiosity is what's needed; experience isn't

How it would work

• Two days a week at our office in Leith, Edinburgh, the work is physical, so it's an in-person role

• We can be mostly flexible on which days the 2 days are, we'll settle into a pattern that fits your life

• Paid properly: £37,500 full-time equivalent, which is £15,000 a year for the two days

• You'll work directly with the founders, learn the product inside out, and see the things you've worked on go straight back out into families' living rooms
